Crash Course - Pippin

The Crash Course Series offers an exciting opportunity for performers and enthusiasts alike to take a deeper dive into some of the most beloved musicals being performed in the Lancaster area. Each class is designed to highlight a key element—whether it’s vocals, scene work, or choreography—giving participants the chance to explore material from upcoming productions in a focused and engaging way. Perfect for cast members seeking extra rehearsal time or for students (middle school age and up) who have always dreamed of learning more about these shows, Crash Course is your chance to step into the spotlight and experience the joy of musical theater like never before!

This class is taught by the choreographer of Hempfield High School’s upcoming production of Pippin, Jordyn Johnson.

Pippin highlights the iconic works of Bob Fosse’s dance style. The Fosse style is characterized by sharp, isolated movements, emphasizing bent limbs, angles, and precision. His works, like Pippin, revolutionized musical theater and continue to influence modern choreography. The choreography in Pippin is fun because it’s accessible, but it also offers moments of intricate movement and surprise. It adds to the light-hearted, sometimes satirical tone of the show, which makes the choreography a blend of entertainment, artistic expression, and emotional storytelling, all wrapped in fun, energetic movements that captivate audiences!
